The Astronomical Observatory
The astronomical observatory is one of the most prominent attractions of the Alfa Planetarium. It was inaugurated on January 20, 2000. The main attractions of the observatory include the two main telescopes which adorn the place. There is a Refractor telescope of 3.14” diameter to observe larger objects such as the Sun, moon, or the open star cluster called the Pleiades. The other telescope is a 16” diameter telescope. If you want to get a glimpse of these magnificent telescopes you can visit the place during daytime as well as you can also be a part of an event such as Astronomical Saturday that is organized in the last two Saturdays of each month.
The Alfa Planetarium Aviary takes pride in being the first aviary of Monterrey and the first in Mexico to be dedicated to the reproduction of birds. The aviary was created in August 1986, and since then it has been a favorite spot for ornithologists from across the globe. It sprawls over an area of four thousand square meters within the planetarium premises. The birdhouse has a huge collection of three hundred birds which include peacock, black swan, white bill gall, duck, Hawaiian goose, and cinnamon duck. As the second stage of its development, Ivory Domes were opened in 2003, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Alfa Planetarium. These domes inhibit birds like parrots, yellow-headed parrots, yellow-naped parrots, and yellow-cheeked parrots. You can get a glimpse of beautiful peacocks with their feathers opened and cherishing their natural surroundings. The authorities also have feeding centers where you can feed your loving birds or take a photo while your friend does that. The aviary also supports and works for the successful reproduction of different species like collar duck which nearly reproduce 250 species annually.
The Garden of Science
The garden of science is located in an area outside the Alfa Planetarium. It is an interactive and learning area which allows the visitors to test their visual, auditory sense. It also helps you to explore your spatial sense which involves shape and space sense which involves the concepts of geometry and an ability to recognize and visualize geometric shapes. The garden will surprise you with physical demonstrations whose understanding is necessary for sustaining life.
'The Ancient Mexicans” is a permanent exhibition site in the Alfa Planetarium premises. The archeological exhibits of the display give an insight into the scientific and technological knowledge, traditions, customs, and beliefs of the Mesoamerican era. There are four hundred and fifty archeological pieces depicting the Mesoamerican culture like Olmec, Mayan, Toltec, and Teotihuacan. These artifacts were donated to the premises by the Mexican journalist. There are two segments of the exhibition. The first depicts objects that are arranged according to each Mesoamerican culture whereas in the second segment objects are visualizing the scientific and technological development of the community. It is an interesting place to pay a visit.
