Situated on the hill, 3 km in the west of Palma in Mallorca island, this Gothic Castle was built in the 14th century by King James II from Mallorca. This castle is one of the circular castles in Europe. Bellver Castle is also known as Castell de Bellver in Catalan language. Previously, this castle was the residence of the Mallorca's king, then it became the military prison duirng the 18th and 20th century. Today, Bellver Castle is under the civil control as the one of main tourist attraction in Mallorca Island and also as the Museum of History.

Bellver Castle stands 3 km from the city center of Palma, right on the hill 112 meters above sea level. This castle has the specific original design, consists of Gothich building which is perfectly shaped, with four big towers facing the four compass point. the keep faces north and it is separated from the fort, while the other tower is elevated to the main building. The Chapel of Bellver Castle is located on the second floor and it was built during 1879 until 1885. This chapel is dedicated to Saint Alphonsus Rodriguez, the brother of Jesuit Lay that entered the society when he was 40 years old. He was a son of wool merchant in Segovia. Alphonsus Rodriguez was declared honourable in 1626. In 1633, he was chosen by the Council General of Majorca as one of the special patrons of the city and island. Every Sunday after Easter Celebration, the local people gather in the forest and the castle to celebrate Diumenge de l'Angel. This is the traditional family day out in Bellver Castle since 15th century featuring dance, music, workshop, theatre and sport for free.
The keep is the unique symbol of Bellver Castle. This circular towr has 33 meters tall and it is located in the south are of the fort. There are four circular room inside the tower measuring 6 meters, it is connected by the circular stairs and leads to the top of the tower. This tower has a tank which is used to collect water in order to keep alive during the war at that time.
Loopholes are the other features of building which commonly used in medieval era. The loopholes are long, narrow and vertical openings that can be observed in outer walls. Projectil can be fired from this narrow hole.
Barbican was built in 14th century. It can be found outside the castle, in the west side, near the main gates. Barbican is used to protect the strategic and main part of the fort. ,

Tickets can be purchased online or at the tickets office. Bellver Castle offers three kinds of tickets: adult tickets, tickets for pensioners (reduced tickets cost), and tickets for 14 - 18 years old. You can enter this castle for free on Sunday.
