Cathedral of Brasilia is a Roman Catholic Cathedral which was built and designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The cathedral's architecture is not like other churches. The cathedral was built with the hyperboloid structure constructed from 16 concrete columns. These 16 concrete columns represent the thorn crown. The Cathedral of Brasilia was first opened on May 1970. The central dome of the cathedral is covered by stained-glass window designed by Marianne Peretti.

The Our Lady of the Conception Aparecida image that is hung above the altar in the cathedral is a replica of the original which is located in Aparecida do Norte, Sao Paulo. A short history about the image, Our Lady of the Conception Aparecida was found by three fishermens who were looking for fishes on a river in Sao Paulo. However, for a long time they never caught even one fish. Not long after one fisherman spread his net, he pulled it and got the statue of Our Lady of the Conception Aparecida without its head. Then he spread his net again and he finally got its head. The image has become very important in Sao Paulo that there are so many pilgrims come to the image after it was placed in the fisherman's house. The tour inside the dome will allow you to see this beautiful image which hangs above the altar.

The bus fare is around 3.50 real to 8.50 real. If you want to go to the cathedral by bicycle, it will take around 25 minutes of riding from the center of Brasilia via DF-002.
