The Central Park Zoo of New York is a 6.5-acre (2.6 hectares) zoo. This zoo was established back in 1864 and has regularly undergone renovations and modifications to keep up with the increasing animals and to add more facilities for the visitors. This zoo has since long replaced the cages with a naturalistic environment which has led to a more natural feel to the zoo and has brought out the wildlife side of the animals. The zoo and its exhibits are divided into three parts based on climate including tropical, temperate and polar. The zoo also boasts of a chilled house for penguins, a polar bear pool as well as an indoor rainforest. The zoo also has breeding programmes for endangered animals including the red panda.
