The Charminar is a historical monument and a mosque which is located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It was built in the year 1591 by Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah. Over the years, it has become a signature monument and an important part of the city's heritage. It is regarded as one of the most important architectural achievements of the Qutub Shahi period. The word Charminar is derived from the Urdu word Chaar and meaner which means four minarets. Charminar is listed among the most known structures of India. Charminar has had a mosque on the top floor for almost 400 years. It is considered one of the most important and prominent tourist attractions in Hyderabad.

The monument Charminar is divided into four floors, it has a climb of 149 steps to the top floor. The Monument is made up of granite, limestone, and marble. If one looks at the Minarets it is 95-foot (29-meter) minarets which gives the structure its name, Charminar means four towers. Tourists admire the intricate details of the architecture which has four grand arches, balconies and domes. In one corner there is a beautiful mosque where prayers take place on Fridays.The mosque has 45 prayer spaces which can accommodate huge crowds that come for mass prayers on Friday.Tourists hardly leave the city without taking a trip to Charminar and the surrounding market. One can climb the monument's narrow steps and enjoy a sky-high view of the entire city.
At Charminar, the tourists browse the Laad Baazar market as it is quite famous for its handcrafted jewelry. The handcrafted items are unique in their way. This bazaar has a lot of food stalls where people try some traditional Indian cuisine such as biryani, haleem, and a spicy rice dish. During January, many vendors come and sell kites as a mark of celebration of the Sankranti festival and the beginning of spring. Tourists mostly prefer to come here to take pictures at night of the monument when it is bathed in dramatic yellow, green and blue lights. These lights give a splendid view of the Charminar. Laad Bazaar also offers a great variety of 'attar' essential oils and antiques.
Makkah Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad, Telangana and is considered to be one of the largest across India. It is known as Makkah Masjid because the bricks are made from the soil that is brought from Mecca. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah built it. Approximately 8000 workers were employed to build the mosque. The three arches of the masjid have been carved from a single piece of granite. It took five years in quarrying. Makkah Masjid is listed as a heritage building of old Hyderabad. Makkah Masjid is one of the most prominent tourist spots not only for devotees but everyone.
The chowmahalla Palace is known as the palace of Nizams of Hyderabad when they ruled over their states. It was put up by Nizam Salabat Jung. The word chowmahalla refers to four palaces. Mostly all the ceremonial functions like the elevation of the Nizams and the receptions for the Governor General were conducted in this palace. This is also known as a royal palace situated in the old city of Hyderabad.
Pista House is famous for Hyderabadi Haleem which is a stew composed of meat, lentils, and wheat blended and turned into a thick paste. It is an Arabic dish which was introduced to the Hyderabad state by the Chaush people. At Pista House, one can get a huge variety of food items like biryani, biscuits, cakes, snacks, kebabs, Indian and Chinese cuisine. It is a well-known place for foodies.

One can get a taste of authentic Irani Chai at this place. It is opposite to the Charminar. One can have a perfect view of the monument with a hot and delicious Irani Chai with Osmania biscuit. It doesn't get better than this.
How to Get Tickets?
Charminar Tickets can be obtained at the entrance of the monument. Timings are 9.00 am -5.30 p.m.It is open on all days. The Entry fee is Rupees 5/- for Indians and Rupees 100/- for foreign tourists. The queues are long and purchasing tickets can take a bit of time, but the wait in the queue is worth it because it gives a splendid view of the Charminar.
How To Get Around?
Charminar is situated 5 km away from the Hyderabad bus station. Regular bus services are easily available to reach the destination from all parts of the city. One can also reach the fort by hiring a taxi or an auto-rickshaw. Charminar is centrally located so there is no problem in reaching and it is easily accessible.
Best Time to Visit
One can explore the beautiful monument at any time of the year but the best time to visit Charminar is between October and March. The weather is quite pleasant during this period.
