Nearly 200 meters (7minutes walk) from the Copenhagen zoo is the Frederiksberg Palace. This palace is nearly 3,000 years old and once it served as the summer residence of the Danish Royal Families. The Sondermarken Cistern is a well-known tourist destination. The remains of three enormous cisterns are embedded deep in the underbelly of Frederiksberg Palace. Long back they were used to supply water to Copenhagen. They occupy a total area of 4400 square meters. In 1980, they were emptied of water and since then the two have been open for visits. A modern glass works museum is located inside these which permanently exhibit glass art by the well-known Danish artists. The Museum is open from Thursday to Saturday.
