Dazaifu Tenmangu is a popular shrine among the Tenmangu shrines. This shrine is devoted to Sugawara no Michizane, a great scholar and a politician of Dazaifu. Lookout for a statue of ox after entering the shrine. About ten statues of the ox welcome you. The story behind these statues is that an ox was supposed to pull the carriage of Michizane’s dead body, but the animal refused to do so. Legend says that Michizane didn't want to get pulled. So, they buried him at that site. These statues were built in honor of that ox. It’s rumored that tapping on the statue will make you gain more knowledge and wisdom.

How To Get There?
You can reach Fukuoka through flight, train, bus or taxi. Dazaifu is located 15-kilometer distance from Fukuoka. You can easily access the train because the nearby station is around 250 meters from Dazaifu, named Nishitestu Railway station.
It is open every day throughout the year except on Mondays or next day, if Monday is a national holiday.
