Visiting El Paso Museum of Archaeology

El Paso Museum of Archaeology is a prehistoric museum which present 14,000 years of prehistory of the area surrounding El Paso. This museum located at 4301 Transmountain at the base of the Franklin Mountain, it was opened in 1977. Explore dioramas and exhibit of American India lives and their material cultures, from the Paleoindian hunters of the Ice Age to their modern descendants. The dioramas represent the cultures of The Casa Grandes and Jornada Mogollon. Many insights that you will get there included see 80-year-old grave fiber cloth, various items, pottery and jewelry. The exhibit will change periodically to reflect the scope of the Museum's collections and interest of the community. The things to do if you want to see the special exhibit is go to the auditorium and the North Gallery.

The Annual Franklin Mountain

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology has annual poppies fest. Which is this event partnership with the Franklin Mountains Wilderness Coalition, National Patrol Museum and the Downtown Artist and Farmers Market. If you are lucky you can see the beautiful and vast display of Mexican Gold Poppies in the spring. You can enjoy the beautiful outdoors while learning about what our mountains and desert have to offer. Put this event on the things to do in your tour.

Archery and Atl-atl Demonstration

This will be an interesting activity for you the archery sport lovers. This is free archery programs of El Paso Museum of Archaeology. It held with the assistance of volunteers from the Citadel of the Society for creative Anachronism. You can use the Museum's bows, it opens for archers of all abilities to try their hand shooting. The museum also allowed to bring your own recurve or long bows (no compound bows are allowed on the range). Don't be afraid if you haven't experience yet, the museum staff is on hand to teach you to use the atl-atl on an adjacent atl-atl range.
