Located in the Locust Point of Baltimore, the Fort Mc Henry is an American historical monument which features a coastal pentagonal bastion fort. Famous for its significant role in the War of 1812, it protected and defended the Harbour from the massive attack by the British Navy through the Chesapeake Bay. Designated a national park in the year 1925 and national monument in the year 1939, the memorial flew an American storm flag during the war which gave inspiration to Francis Scott Key to write the poem 'Defence of Fort M Henry' that was later known as the national anthem of the United States of America, 'Star Spangled Banner'.
