Glover Garden is a park in Nagasaki, Japan who was built as an honor for Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottish who played many important roles in the Japan's modernization. Located in the area of Minamiyamate hillside, the park was completed in 1863. Despite the park consists of the beautiful garden and houses, Glover Garden was also the witness of the historical events happened in Nagasaki. The buildings are kept just like in the past but there are additional gardens in the outside, making it really beautiful and worth to visit.

The establishment of the Glover House along with the garden was started when Thomas Blake Glover expanded his business in Japan with Nagasaki as the base. He lived in this area with Japanese woman named Tsuru. Inside the Glover House, it is shown how Glover and Tsuru lived. The interior decorations, the furniture, and others are made as similar as possible to the Glover's house in the past. In fact, Glover's house was not just a common house. It was also a connector of the trades between Japan and the world outside. There was also a secret room claimed as the place to hide the rebels who fighter against the government in the end of Edo era. Well, those rebels were the Samurais.

The Former Ringer Residence was previously owned by Frederic Ringer. He opened many businesses and was very influenced at that time particularly in the economy world of Nagasaki. It is said that the famous restaurant in Japan 'Ringer Hut' founds the name from Frederic Ringer. Meanwhile, the Former Alt Residence was once owned by William John Alt. This building is very luxurious and elegant in European-style along with its fountains and pillars. The area also includes some other buildings that was used as the employers' home stays. They were the employers of Nagasaki Harbor. Those buildings are also known as the Mitsubishi Dockhouses.

How to Get Tickets?

The tickets are found directly on the entrance of the attraction or you can easily compare ticket providers through this website. To enter and enjoy the Glover Garden entirely, a ticket costs 610 Yen for the adult, 300 Yen for Senior High School students, and 180 Yen for the Junior High School students. For the children, the tickets are free. You can only pay the tickets with cash money. There is no credit and debit card available.

How To Get Around?

The tour can start from the main houses including the Glover, Ringer, and Alt houses. Then, they are followed by any other buildings like the dockhouses. Make sure to enjoy the garden around to see the relaxing green trees and the ponds.
