Hobbiton, the Filming Site of The Lord of the Rings

Hobbiton, the Filming Site of The Lord of the Rings

It is widely known that Hobbiton Site was built solely for The Lord of the Rings film series. Alexander Farm in Waikato was chosen by Peter Jackson during his journey in finding the right area to build the site in 1998. He described the area as 'a slice of ancient England' and suits the setting of the story. After discussing with the owners, the working on constructing began to set the farm into sets of Hobbiton the next year. Heavy works such like making 1.5 kilometers of road into the site from the nearest local road and initial ground works and building 37 hobbit holes facades, as well as associated gardens and hedges, a mill and double arch bridge, and inserting a 29 ton oak above Bag End was conducted to make the site as authentic as possible. Not only decorations, the construction of Hobbiton Site also features generators, water, and sewerage as if that the site is indeed inhabited by the hobbits, making it so real and believable that the creatures exist among the humans
