The tropical forest has been recently renovated to build a better environment for the elephants, who need a bigger area for their movements and activities. In this part of the zoo, mostly elephants reside and also some bulls. The tropical forest has been renovated according to the American standards of the zoo society. The tropical forest has water pools for the animals and also, the plants have been added in such a way that they provide a shed for the animals. The bulls and the elephants are kept separately.

The African Savanna in the Honolulu Zoo covers around one-third of the zoo. This part of the zoo has been designed with the basic aim of providing the animals a natural ambience. The African Savanna is home to various animals which include lions, cheetah, baboons, giraffes, hyenas, antelopes, rhinos and many others. It also has a separate area for the small animals which includes meerkats, caracals, egrets, vultures and some more.

The best way to reach the Honolulu zoo is through bus, taxi, and metro. The nearest metro station is Naval Station Pearl Harbor. Also, they offer free parking, so driving with your own car is also a good option. Though sometimes, they charge too, which is around $1 for an hour.
