The Houston Zoo is a zoological park and the most famous tourist destination spot. The zoo is located in the Herman Park with more than 6.000 animals in over 900 species. It opened in September 1922 operated by non-profit corporation Houston Zoo Inc.  It is the second most visited park in the United States of America.

There is no dress code to the Houston Zoo. You can wear anything you find appropriate. Wear comfortable shoes or flip-flop as the zoo is spread on an area of 55 acres. Avoid wearing high heels. You can prefer to pack lightweight, soft and delicate fabric. You may carry jeans, jumpsuits, trousers, tees and casual button downs. You are recommended to take a pair of sunglasses, a hat, a scarf, a sunscreen lotion. Bring your hand towel and tissue.

Best Time to Visit

The spring season has low temperatures and is a pleasant weather to visit. The best time to visit Houston is starting from the months of February to April and from the months of September to November.  The visiting time to Houston Zoo is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday. The Zoo visiting hours have been extended on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Weekday mornings are perfect to visit the zoo as it's less crowded. The Houston Zoo offers free entry on the first Tuesday of every month, from September to May.

How To Get There?

You can reach Houston by car, train, airplane, or bus. If you are traveling within the country then you can reach the city by train, bus or car. And if you are from abroad then you need to book the tickets for the flight to George International Airport. Once you reached Houston Airport, further journey can be done by city transport.

You will be amazed to know that the zoo offers free entry to visitors on the first Tuesday of the month from September to May. The free entry will be from noon till the zoo gets close. The visitors are requested not to bring balloons, glass container or alcohol on the premises of the zoo. You can take food items inside but do not feed animals. Teasing or feeding animal is a punishable offense.  Try to arrive early at the zoo so you save yourself from parking trouble. You can even save your time and money by booking the tickets in advance. You are allowed to take the camera inside. The natural snapshots can help you to earn. You can bring your clicked snaps to swam shop and earn the point through them. Be aware of pickpockets and take care of your valuables.
