The Oceanarium

The Oceanarium is a large aquarium, 36 meters in diameter and 5 meters in depth with a capacity of 4 million liters. It is the largest aquarium in Barcelona and one of the biggest in Europe with a home to the diverse variety of fishes including bull shark, gray shark, stingray, yellow flipper, small pilot fish etc. An 80-meter transparent tunnel through the Oceanarium offers an intimate encounter with the exotic life under water. Experience the life of a diver closely with fishes swimming by your side, below and above you.

It recreates the natural climatic conditions and topography to help you understand how various animals adapt themselves to the extreme conditions of their habitat. There are different enclosures for diverse animals ranging from Humboldt Penguins to freshwater stingrays, sperm whales, piranhas, and turtles.

How to Get Tickets?

The tickets to the aquarium can be bought at the site itself or you can also buy them online to skip long queues. Children below the age of 3 are given free admission. You are eligible for free admission to the aquarium if you have Barcelona City pass.

How To Get Around?

The aquarium is not too big. It would take you around two to three hours (according to your interest) to explore the place. There are many fun and thrilling activities at the aquarium like diving with the sharks that you can take enjoy.

What Should I Wear?

There is no dress code to the aquarium hence you can wear pretty much anything to visit the place. Dress in your comfortable casuals as you may like to indulge in various activities at the aquarium.

Best Time to Visit

L'Aquarium Barcelona is open all through the year except the Easter holidays (24th March to 1st April) and Christmas Holidays (15th December to 7th January). You can visit it between 10:00 am to 7:30 or 8:00 pm on weekdays and between 10:00 am to 8:00 or 8:30 pm on weekends and public holidays from April to October. In July and August, the timings are from 10:00 am to 9:30 pm while in June and September you can visit between 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Ticket counter at the aquarium closes one hour prior to the closing time of the aquarium. If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy a better view of the animals, then visit the place early in the morning when the aquarium opens or around 5 in the evening.



Will I Need a Guide?

You can explore the place at your own pace. The staff present at the aquarium will guide you about the marine life and tell interesting facts about it. Guided tours to the aquarium are also available.

How To Get There?

Barcelona Aquarium is easily accessible by public transportation or you can reach the place by a private car or taxi. You can take metro line 4 or 3 up to Barceloneta and Drassanes stations respectively. Besides that, numerous buses in Barcelona have stops near the aquarium. Tourists buses have a stop at Port Vell from where you will easily be able to manage your route. The aquarium also has a biking station.
