Los Angeles Zoo, in the megacity of Los Angeles with mountains one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, is spread over an area of 54 hectares of land with LA owning all of its land, facilities and animals. The zoo opened its gates to the elephants in 2010 and housed Asian elephants and South-East Asian Elephants. The area spreads up to 1.5 hectares and has a 1500 meter squares of the barn used for medical examinations of the elephants. The area has been divided into different areas like the Thai Pavilion displaying the role of elephants' labour in the economy of Thailand, The Elephants of China housing Chinese water deer and Sarus Crane.
Opened in 2012, this indoor, as well as outdoor exhibit, focuses on terrestrial arthropods and herps. The journey starts with the Oak Woodland Pond, where the local animals can move and live among their habitual plant structure. The Damp Forest House in the LAIR section houses Chinese giant salamanders, poisonous dart frogs, and also a recreation of the Daintree rainforest river with Fly River Turtles, Australian Lungfish and archerfish. Various snakes including the West African Green Mamba, The Mangshan Pit viper and others live in the next segment: Betty's Bite and Squeeze Room. The 560 meter square mesh is a recreation of an Asian Jungle which houses Bornean Orangutans. The opening has a guest path for visitors to look through the various exhibits through the stream over a deck bridge and end at a small pavilion with a glass window. Further, the path exposes a large central deck where the visitors can see the surrounding exhibit. Backed by artificial poles, branches, bamboo trees, rubber trees, hibiscus trees and vines, the environment is suitable for apes to climb and enjoy the natural feel.
The petting zoo housing goats and sheep with some other domestic animals, allows visitors to interact with them.
Incorporating a toddler area, a grassy landscape, a huge picnic spot and play structures, the park is a perfect place for keeping the toddlers entertained during the visit.
Featuring animals living in the tropical regions of North, South and Central America, the entity opened in 2014. The animals include red-bellied Piranha, harpy eagle, jaguar, Southern black howler monkey, giant river otter, Baird's Tapir, emerald tree boa, keel-billed toucan and others.
