The Medeu, (Kazakh: Медеу; Medeu) is an outdoor speed skating and bandy rink. It is located in a mountain valley (Medeu Valley, or the valley of Malaya Almatinka River) on the south-eastern outskirts of Almaty, Kazakhstan. Medeu sits 1,691 metres above sea level. The ice skating rink Medeu located at the altitude of 1,691.2 meters above sea level is world-known. It was erected in 1972. There are several hiking trails that originate from the Medeu main bus stop. There is access to the Shymbulak Skiing resort from the Medeu cable car station. This involves a 15-20 minute scenic ride above the area's mountain tops and rivers. Kimassar trail is a 2 hour hike to the top of Furmanov Peak, where hikers have access to swinging on iconic wooden swings. Kok-Zhailyau trail is a 3 hour hike, and leads to hot springs with thermal water (the place is equipped with changing booths, tiny thermal water pool and outdoors gym). Shymbulak trail is a 2 hour hike, and leads to Shymbulak Skiing resort.

Tickets can be purchased on site when you arrive. There will be a ticket booth where you can buy your tickets. Admission ticket is valid only for one session; morning or evening.

How To Get There?
Medeu is a short, scenic taxi ride from Almaty centre (2,500 Tenge). If you don't have your own transport and don't want to hire a car, bus number 6 leaves every half hour in front of the Hotel Kazakhstan and goes up all the way to Medeu along Dostyk Avenue. Alternatively, you can rent a bicycle. It's a good work-out to cycle all the way up. Take 2 hours to get there if you are in average shape.
Medeu opens on weekdays at 12:00 to 23:00 with a pause from 16:00 to 18:00. Entrance is 1,800 T and renting skates will set you back around 1,000 T depending on the duration. Season runs from the end of October to March. Bring your passport, it will be useful.
