Visiting Monterey State Historic Park

4.5 (100%) 888 votes

Pretty clear by the name itself, it is historic state park located in Monterey, California. It is a group of nearly all of the restored historic buildings of the Monterey Old Town, including the Cooper-Molera Adobe Complex, the Custom House, Colton Hall, the Stevenson House, California's First Brick House, Old Whaling Company, the Larkin House, the First Theater, the Interpretive House, the Pacific House Museum, Casa Soberanes, and Casa del Oro. This is the reason why in 1970, Monterey was declared a National Historic Landmark. The various buildings of the park represent the cultural diversity that dominates California’s past and history. It’s transformation from a distant Spanish outpost to U.S. statehood. These buildings were the location of California’s first constitutional convention. The grounds of the park house the Monterey Customs House and California's first theatre.
