The Caroline Wiess Law Building is designed in a neo-classical style by William Ward Watkin. It was built in 1924 while the left and right wings were added later in 1926. The new structure had vast and important improvements in the galleries that included air conditioning as well. The museum has a space where the 20th and 21st-century artworks are exhibited. The Asian Art Installations and Oceanic Art Installations are also housed in the same space. Indonesian Gold Artifacts, Sub-Saharan and Pre-Columbian artworks are also included. However, the Glassell Collection of African Gold is the best of all the collections and also the most attractive.
The Nancy and Rich Kinder Building was designed by Steven Holl Architects on a spread of 164,000 square feet area. The gallery is still in progress. The gallery is planned to have a sculpture garden and expand till the Glassell School of Art with other 25 galleries of travel exhibits along with a restaurant, a library, educational areas, one theatre and lecture halls.
The Glassell School of Art that opened in 1979 has been designed by S.I. Morris and offers a number of programs under its Studio School of Adults. It is the teaching part of the museum with a range of classes, educational opportunities, and workshops that are focussed on different age groups, experience, needs and interests. The building has an L-shaped structure that has an amphitheater leading to a garden on the roof. The sculpture garden in the wing provides space for the students to have performances and programs. There is also an underground parking lot and garage in the building.
The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens has a fine collection of furniture and decorative art of America. The property was donated to the museum in 1957 by Miss Hogg which in 1962 was followed by donations for all of its paintings, ceramics, glass, textiles, metals and furniture. The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens was dedicated to the public and was opened to them in 1966. The area of the gardens spreads on fourteen acres of land along with woodland gardens.
The Rienzi is home to the decorative arts of Europe. It was donated in 1991 by Carroll and Harriss Masterson III and spreads over an area of almost four acres. It was designed by John F. Staub in 1952, who also designed the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. It was completed in the year 1954 and was opened to the public in the year 1999 after the death of Mr. Masterson.
Some of its major attractive artworks of the museum are the Portrait of an Old Woman, Entrance to the Grand Canal, Les Orangers, Water Lilies, The Bonaventure Pine, The Elder Sister, Peaceable Kingdom, Woman in a Purple Coat and Madame Cezanne in Blue.
