In the pre-historic era, when the royal Himalaya didn't come into existence, the place was a large sea, called the Tethys Sea. When Himalaya rose up from the sea, the scattered desert areas, full of Sand Dunes, also came into existence. Nubra Valley took its shape and became the unexploited heaven. The Leh to Nubra Valley, across the Khardungla Pass, is the highest motor able road. Adventures fanatics never miss the chance to drive across the legendary mountain road. Bike riders lovingly call it “Mecca of Riders”. Once you have reached the valley, there are so much to experience and enjoy. The Giant Chamba Statue or the Maitreyee Buddha statue, facing Pakistan, is like the symbol of the holiness of this valley. The Diskit Gompa of old Diskit area is another attraction for its unique Tibetan style architecture and tranquility. The entire valley is full of multiple old and esteemed Gompas. Hunder Gompa, Samstanling Gompa etc are celebrated among them. The Pon Khar Palace of Turtuk area was the palace of Prince Tang. The remaining parts of that palace are now few wooden columns and a museum. The descendants of that Royal family still lives there and happily tell the stories of their legacy to the visitors. Adjacent to Siachen Glacier, Panamik Village of Nubra valley is famed for its mythical hot springs. Nubra Valley trip cannot be accomplished without enjoying the Bactrian camel ride across the Sand Dunes at a very nominal price. Camping in Hunder areas is also worth experiencing.
