Pamitinan cave is a cave located in the San Rafael Barangay near Rodriguez, Rizal. It is also near the Wawa Dam. The cave was formerly known as 'The cave of Bernardo Carpio', a figure in Philippine mythology who was rebuked by God because of his insolence. Unlike other mountains, pamitinan Cave offers a challenging tour for visitors. The peak is about 426 meters above sea level. It takes around an hour and half until three hours to reach the summit. The mountain allows you to discover your strenghth with its steep trails and pointed rock formations. It requires complete concentration and care to climb the Pamitinan Mountain.

What Should I Wear?

There is no dress code when you have a tour at Pamitinan Cave. The only thing that is important is you should wear comfortable shoes or sandals and stuff. It is also good to start hiking at 02.00 p. m to enjoy the beautiful sunset at the peak of Pamitinan Cave.

Will I Need a Guide?

Having a guide is required for the climb. There are about seven guides in the area. It is better to reserve your slot, especially when you want to hike on weekends and holidays. The guide fee is P80 for a group of five hikers.

How To Get There?

Pamitinan Cave is located is not too far from Metro Manila. It takes about an hour to get there. The easiest way to reach the mountain is to ride a van headed to Eastwood in Montalban from Cainta or Cubao. Vans are available 24 hours every week, so you dont need to worry to find the rides. At Eastwood Subdivision You can find tricycles that can take you to Sitio Wawa where the Department of Environment and Natural Resources office is located. If you are planning to ride a private vehicle, head to Rodriquez via Markina and San Mateo. Then you will find direction to Sitio Wawa along the way. Pass by a winding road and after a few minutes the Department of Environment and Natural Resources registration area will be on your right side. If you are from the airport, you can reach the Pamitinan cave by take public transportations, like bus, or hiring a car or motorbike. Car hire facilities are available in the airport. you can also grab and Uber in the city.

You should avoid hiking in holiday since there will be a lot of people hiking during the holidays. You will find a long queues especially at areas where you can take photos. When you are hiking, it is wise to bring enough food and water for a three hours hike. You can find no source of food and water on the mountain during your hike. For beginners, it is chalenging to reach the summit. Be aware of the sweltering heat of the sun and the sharp karst you will have to endure.
