The secret Pandawa Beach was located behind tall limestone cliffs, even some people said that the beach was only accessible by locals who have spent their entire life farming for seaweeds in the beach. The only access to reach the beach's shore is by climbing down the steep cliffs by only using a rope. It wasn't until the governor recognized Pandawa Beach's potential that they decided to split the limestone cliffs and create a paved road, making access to the beach become much easier. The beach's popularity have been rising from that moment. Although Pandawa Beach is no longer considered as “secret beach”, it still hold the charms of hidden beach that will mesmerize you.
The Pandawa Lima
Another interesting point about Pandawa Beach is its name. In Mahabrata Epic, Pandawa is the name of five siblings that are depicted as heroes called Pandawa Lima. In the story, Pandawa Lima were archenemies of Kurawa, their antagonist counterparts. On your way to Pandawa Beach, you'll see six arches on the limestone cliffs. In each arch resides six statues of Pandawa Lima: Dharmawangsa (Yudhistira), Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sadewa, and their mother Dewi Kunti. Each statues are draped in colorful Balinese waistclothes. You'll also see another empty arch, there are some speculations that the statue of Dewi Madri (the second wife of Pandu, the Pandawa Lima's father) or Pandu himself are going to be displayed there.
