Papal Palace or Vatican Palace is the place where pope lives. This castle has a beautiful and large 55 acre garden filled with oak tree lines. The beautiful grounds and trimmed gardens are a pleasant, peaceful place filled with wisely tended borders, fountains, flowers and overlooks. This garden was built in 13th century and acquired by Vatican in 1596. Previously this garden was not opened for common people. But it was Pope Francesco who has opened it for visitors. The papal gardens are now open for tourists and guided tours are offered from 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 11:30 am. It takes around 90 minutes to explore this garden.

Tickets have to be booked in advanced through, an online website. Only guided tour operators are allowed to book ticket, hence it is advisable to contact a travel tour company. It costs around 20 Euros for a person and around 15 Euros, if booking for an entire group.

The only way to explore these beautiful gardens is by walking. The landscape of the garden does not allows a vehicle to enter. People with disabilities can visit the garden but excluding the parts with hilly terrains. A wheelchair could not support here.

What Should I Wear?

There are certain restrictions for clothes. One can explore papal gardens by wearing normal clothes like t-shirts, cargos. However, for entering Sistine Chapel and Museums, there is a big no for sleeve-less shirts, shorts and mini-skirts along with hats. Try to wear comfy shoes.
