Enlivening the historic sight of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is the house for various flora and fauna. Spread over an area of 70-acre land and located at the foothills of Mehrangarh Fort, the park was created with the view of preserving the desert and vegetation grown in the arid land. The place boasts of its natural ecology that contains some beatific sights that will leave the visitors enthralled. Created in 2006, the Park was opened for public in the year 2011. The place remains thronged by visitors from across the globe who visit this park to witness the historic location that houses over 200 species of fauna and 600 species of flora. The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park formed around 680 million years ago, due to continuous volcanic activities in the area. The Gully which starts as one gets out of the visitors center is a rocky canyon also known as an aqueduct and canal that carries the rainwater from the catchment areas to the Padmasar lake. It opens up the Mehrangarh Fort and the Blue Trails that are located at its end. The park includes many more attractions and locations for visitors to spend their time. It starts with the Visitors Centre wherein one can buy tickets and moves on to Interpretation gallery. It also houses a nursery, shops for buying gifts and a café to quench the hunger. The park is a sight to watch during rains and fall season that offers visitors an alluring view of nature's beauty.

How to Get Tickets?

School Students are offered free entry into the Rao Jodha Desert Park. The entry fee for Adults is Rs. 100. In case you want to hire a naturalist guide, an additional entry fee of Rs. 200/- has to be paid. Visitors to the Rao Jodha Desert Park need to buy the tickets from the Visitors Centre that is 800 meters from the Main fort gate and begin their trek inside the desert.

How To Get Around?

Visitors can enter the park through its various entry points. Either you can start walking from closer to the Fort or start from the Visitors Centre from the Main Fort Gate. It is a long walking trail witnessing the various flora and fauna of the Attraction. The complete journey inside the park is to be undertaken on foot. However, there are parking facilities offered to visitors to park their private cars and buses.

What Should I Wear?

There is no particular dress code to be followed during the visit. However, the place compels visitors to carry a few things along during the trek. This includes good walking shoes as the terrain is uneven and filled with rocks, hats, sunglasses, and drinking water. In case you want to bird watch, carrying together birding guiders and binoculars is mandatory.

The Park is open throughout the year in varying timings. From April to September the park opens from 7 am to 6.30 pm and from October to March it is 8 am to 5.30 pm. With changing climate, the park offers visitors a picturesque sight during different seasons. The best time to visit the park is from October to February when the grass dries off and turn golden. It is easy to walk around during this time and enjoy the serene cool weather of Jodhpur. Plan your visit during July to October when with rains the park explodes with grasses and colors.

Visitors can walk around the serene terrains of the park viewing the various sights. Individuals can hire Naturalists as Guides paying an additional charge of Rs.200. How To Get There?

Jodhpur is well connected to other cities of India. It has its own airport, however, the frequencies of flights to the place is quite low. The place can also be reached by rail and road. There are plenty of cars, taxis, and auto-rickshaws available outside railway stations and airports. You can also opt for shared cabs to reach the park.
