Located in West Yorkshire, this park is one of the biggest city parks in Europe. It has more than 700 hectares areas consist of parklands, lakes, woodlands, and gardens owned by Leeds City Council. Garden in this park is the main attraction in Leeds.
Roundhay Park Tours
Mature trees species are grown in the three main parts of Canal Gardens. Besides mature trees, it is filled by flower garden, lake, and wall which are built in 1816. There is also a mansion that has rose collections and vegetable that provides an entrance to the tropical world. Canal Gardens is located in west side of the main garden and it is separated by Prince's Avenue. Roundhay Park also features Monet Gardens, Alahmabra Gardens and The Friends Garden.
There is an arena in Roundhay Park which can be used to hold many events. It was ever used by The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Simple Minds, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Madonna, Level 42, Genesis, Robbie Williams, U2 and Cast to host a concert there. This arena can hold more than 100.000 people. In 1894, this arena was converted to be the sport arena with cycle track for unemployed people in Leeds. In summer, this arena is used as the cricket field.
Although it is only a park, Roundhay also features a castle in its area. This castle was built 1811 by George Nettleton, the local master to give a beautiful look to the castle's gates. Previously, the castle had wooden roof and upper room which are used as summer house, sewing room for the Nicholson's girls, and also for dinner.
Maybe it is strange when park is used as the soldier's field. Roundhay Park provides a field for soldier to have their exercises. It was a place to hold a meeting for the soldiers in 1st World War. Robert Blackburn, the aviation pioneer, held a fly test in this field at 1909. In 1919, a small airport was built in this field with flights to London and Amsterdam. There are tennis field, golf field and field for soldiers to held sports activities.
There are two lakes in this park, Upper lakes and Waterloo Lakes. Upper lakes is the small lakes, it features fountain, island and waterfall which falls into the Waterloo lakes through the rift. Although the Upper lakes are smaller, it is higher than Waterloo lakes. Waterloo lakes were built by the soldier who was back from the Napeleon Wars. That is why the lake is called Battle of Waterloo. Thomas Nicholson gave the soldier a job since they do nothing when they came back after the war. It took two years to finish the constructions.
Built with Greek style, this Mansion House has two floors with big stones. It was constructed in 1811 to 1826 with the overlooking of the upper lakes. This mansion was built for Thomas Nicholson and his wife Elizabeth which took this place as their house. In 1871, this mansion was bought by Leeds City with 17 bedroom and 2 closets.

When it is hosting an event, you can buy the tickets at the organizer of the events via online or at the tickets office in Roundhay Park. Sometimes, tickets in Roundhay Park are based on the day.

You can walk to get around the Roundhay Park. The attractions in this park are close each other, no need to use transportation. Also, you can visit Tropical World Leeds by walking since it is only 200 yards from Roundhay Park.
What Should I Wear?
If you are visiting Leeds on summer, make sure you cool clothes, short, comfortable sneakers since you are going to walk around the park. Sometimes the weather in Roundhay Park can be too hot, hence, do not forget to bring sunscreen in order to avoid the hot weather there. How To Get There?
Getting to Roundhay Park is easy since it is near to the Leeds City Center. Public transportations including bus, train and taxis are available there. If you are planning to visit Roundhay Park by using bus, you can take bus number 12 with blue line to take you there via Oakwood. However, you can take bus number 2 with blue line which can take you via Moortown Corner, but it will take more time to reach Roundhay Park than using bus number 12.
