The Carillon

The Carillon

The carillon originated in the Netherlands in the late 15th century when the first carillon was mounted at the Main Town Hall and the other at St. Catherine's Church. The carillon at the chapel at present contains 49 bells. In 1987 the carillon donated by the Philips was placed in the church. The Royal Bell Foundry in Asten made the iconic bells. All the bells are carved with an inscription which reads “Eijsbouts poured me for Philip's personnel in the Netherlands.” The most famous of them all is the Philips Beiaard, having an enormous size of five octaves which is still a unique, and exceptional piece of art.

The Two Organs

The Two Organs

The famous chapel has two organs which are a heritage of the city and masterpieces of art. In the year 1936, the large organ was given shape by Verschueren. The organ was revamped after his demise, as it faced harm due to war violence. It has 5723 pipes and accounts for the largest organ in the Dutch. The second organ, the neo-Gothic altar organ, is smaller in size. The organs have a special feature which allows the altar organ to be played through the console of the main organ and vice versa.

The Towers

The Towers

At the entrance of the church, you come across three connected porches and two beautiful towers. The southern tower is more defined and is named 'the Ivory Tower.' It is a symbol of the purity of Mary. The northern tower, embellished with turrets and battlements, representing strength and bravery is called the 'Tower of David.' They are a part of the double tower front. The towers are the most important attraction of the church. The famous architect who designed the towers got his inspiration from the Chartres cathedral. The rustic architecture of the towers speaks about the artistic heritage of the place.

The Glass Stained Windows

The Glass Stained Windows

The windows adorn the walls of the church and are an important attraction. The beautiful windows will leave you awestruck.
