Great Southern Oceans
The Great Southern Ocean exhibit of Taronga Zoo harbors Australian Sea Lions, Leopard seals, Californian Sea Lions, New Zealand Fur Seals, Australian Fur Seals, Penguins, and Pelicans. Get an amazing close view of the animals as they roam in their natural habitat. Have an interactive session with the biologists at the zoo and learn about animal conservation.
You can have a glimpse of the enchanting beauty of the Himalayas in Australia itself. One of its exhibits features Himalayan Tahr a close relative of Himalayan Goat and a native of the Himalayas. You will find this animal in its natural habitat climbing the rugged mountain terrain.
Learn about Asia's rich wildlife by visiting this Wild Asia exhibit featuring the tropical rainforests. While going through the dense forests with luxuriant vegetation, you will encounter the Asian Elephant along with other animals common to the tropical rainforests like Asian Otter, tapirs, gibbons, langurs, spider monkeys, etc.
Australia has an exquisite wildlife with some animals that are indigenous to the country and are found nowhere else. At Taronga Zoo you will get an opportunity to interact with these Australian natives. You can go inside the Koala and Kangaroo enclosures and have some fun. While interacting with the animals it is advised not to feed them. Other animals that you will see during the Wild Australia tour are bilby, echidna and feathertail glider.
Our closest relatives that were once found in abundance in Africa are getting lower in number due to loss of their habitat. Taronga Zoo started an initiative to save these animals. It harbors the chimps in their most natural habitat. You can learn about the intelligent species by visiting the Chimpanzee park.
How to Get Tickets?
There are entry tickets for the zoo that you can purchase online. If you wish to take one of the guided tours, then you can pay for them at the zoo itself. Also, there are tickets for the Wild Rope Adventure and sky safari.
How To Get Around?
You can hire a car, bike or electric safari cart to get around the zoo. However, for a real zoo adventure, you should try to explore the vast area on foot or go around on the electric cart. You can bring your own cars and bikes too, but skateboards and scooters are not allowed.
What Should I Wear?
For your adventure to run smooth wear comfortable clothes. Your shoes specifically should be comfortable with rubber soles. You will be on a long exploration spree, walking on steep trails, hills, etc. under the sun, so deck up accordingly. Bring hats and sunglasses along for protection against the sun. Do wear a sunscreen to escape the harmful effect of the sun.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the Zoo will be when the animals are in their most active state. Thus, if you do not wish to miss any action, plan a visit in the warm summer months and that too early morning. During this time the animals are most active, and the best part is that you would be able to able to escape the harsh summer heat. By the time the sun glides up the sky to be at its most fiery self, you will be about to complete your tour.

There's an interactive app providing information about the Zoo, its shows, animal talks, etc. is available for free download. Online maps are also available. Or if you wish to get a better know-how of the place and make the most of your tour select from the numerous guided tour options available.
How To Get There?
Taronga Zoo is located on the Sydney harbor in the suburban region of Mosman. The best way to reach the zoo is by taking a public transport. Circular Quay is just 12 minutes from the Zoo by ferry. Hence taking a ferry ride to the zoo would be a great option. There are numerous ride options available. You can also reach the Zoo by taking a ride on bus or train. A private vehicle is too an option if you do not wish to take public transport. Parking facility is available at the zoo.
The Zoo is a no smoke area and it is prohibited to play loud music in the zoo premises. Also, you cannot bring any animal along inside.
