The National Museum of Biology and Aquarium is a popular museum in Taiwan. The aquarium is located in Checheng Township. The museum was opened in 2000. Along with the museum, the place also houses an outdoor water park which is the largest in Taiwan. The park is spread over a land of 96.81 hectares. The museum covers over 35.81 hectares of the total area. The museum offers a number of attractions for visitors starting from the waters of Taiwan to Coral Kingdom Pavilion, these offer some of the exotic views of the creatures present in the oceans. It offers an educational tour through the entire museum for gaining knowledge of the marine creatures, the different water bodies and how the ocean evolved. The underwater tunnel which is the longest in Taiwan renders a great view of the creatures through the glass. The museum houses the Beluga Whales which are displayed on the ship. The museum also houses two of the most prominent research centers in the country. The NMMBA research center is the fourth best center in Asia. Visitors can move around the place witnessing the wonderful ambiance and gain knowledge about the planet. Some of the popular exhibitions include the Coral Kingdom. Different colorful corals from shallow waters to deep sea can be witnessed in the museum. The visitors must maintain peace and not touch any plants or tunnels. However, they can carry cameras for clicking the pictures of the creatures.

How to Get Tickets?

Visitors can book the tickets online. The tickets are valid for only one day. On booking the ticket online, a confirmation email will be sent to the official email ID. Visitors must carry the confirmation mail along with them. They will also receive an e-voucher. The voucher can be redeemed for availing 2 physical tickets at the THSR Zuoying station or at the Kenting Express Line Counter. The ticket is priced for TWD 450.

How To Get Around?

The museum allows wheelchair access to the public. The entire museum has to be wandered on foot. There are elevators for transporting you to the next level of the museum.

What Should I Wear?

Visitors need to follow a particular dress code. They must wear comfortable clothes and no slippers. Visitors are not allowed to feed the fishes nor carry any objects which are sharp and dangerous. No pets are allowed inside the museum.

Best Time to Visit

The Museum remains closed from January to February. It is opened for public visits from March to December. However, the operating time differs for different months. The Museum opens in the morning at 9 am and closes at 5 pm during March, November, and December. During April, May, June, September, and October the museum operates from Morning 9 am to evening 6 pm. During July and August, the museum operates from morning 8 am to evening 6 pm. The best time to visit the museum is in the morning during July and August.

Guided tours are offered for visitors. They must contact the information service center at the entrance. Guided tours are offered at different times which can be availed by people as per their convenience.

How To Get There?

The National Museum of Biology and Aquarium is located at the southern part of Taiwan. People can reach using private vehicles and public transportation. The museum offers parking provision for visitors to park their vehicle. By car drive onto NH 1 and connect to the No.17 provincial Highway towards Xueidiliao. Then turn towards No.26 Provincial Highway from where the museum is few km away. By public transportation, take a bus from Guoguang, Pingtung or Kaohsiung to Checheng stop. Take a taxi to the museum. You can also take a train to Kaohsiung station or Fangliao station. Outside the station, you can board a bus to the museum.
