The building of Scotch Whisky Experience which earlier housed the Castlehill school underwent a significant renovation exercise in 2012 to allow the addition of modern facilities, including a distillery guide operable on a touch screen and a tasting map. An international spirits challenge was organized at the center for the first time. As part of its 25th anniversary, a new blend was inaugurated, and a one-off celebratory Quaich was released. A re-decorated bar serving 360 varieties of whiskeys from Scotland was also unveiled in the same year.

An Educational tour appropriate for school and student groups of 20 and above, this tour gives a detailed overview of the attraction's business and its growth over the years. All the tours generally last between 50 to 90 minutes expecting the Taste of Scotland that is for 3 hours.

The attraction is in the heart of the city, adjacent to Edinburgh castle and hence easily accessible from major points of interest and transport stops. Use the postcode EH1 2NE to download the direction map to the attraction. For parking your vehicle, you can use the multi-level parking facility available on Castle Terrace, which is at a short distance from the Scotch Whisky Experience. Grassmarket is another option for your parking needs. Use any of the Bus numbers 49, 33, 14, 31, 37, 5, 8, 3 and 7 all of which have stops at North Bridge. The attraction is at a walkable distance from here. You can take a tram from the airport that has a stop close to the attraction. Waverly station is the close train station to the Scotch Whisky Experience. Taxi services are available right outside the station.
