The current owner of Toko Oen managed to preserve the colonials vibe inside the cafe by displaying some old memorabilias including vintage piano, old radio, and old pictures depicting Malang in its old times. Visitors will be seated on a ratan chair with iconic round table blanketed with checkered table mat. The entire building is a Dutch-style architecture with fragrant teak woods framing the window and the door, no major changes are added from the original building, mostly because the structure is listed as one of Malang's Heritage Site.

Few years after Indonesia declared its independence, a renowned historical event took place in Toko Oen. A National Congress attended by the first President of Indonesia, IR. Soekarno was held in Toko Oen on February the 25th in 1947. Toko Oen is also one of few buildings that managed to survive unscathed during fires in Malang done by the Dutch colonials who wished to seize the city once again.
