Originally called as Villa Vizcaya, the place acted as the estate and villa of James Deering, who owned and operated the Deering McCormick-International Harvester. The place has been starred in a lot of movies especially in that of Charlie Chaplin. Some of the movies where the villa can be spotted are Pet Detective, Bad Boys II, The Money Pit, Iron Man 3, Tony Rome, Any Given Sunday, Haunts of the Very Rich, Ace Venture and Airport'77. Some of the majorly famous video songs have also been shooted in the villa like 'I'm still in love with you' by New Edition, 'Promise Me' by The Cover Girls and many more.

Out of the total 50 acres of area, the Italian Renaissance Formal Gardens cover 10 acres. The gardens have been designed with the inspiration from European architect which ranges between the period of 14th century to 17th century. The gardens have been structured symmetrically as well as geometrically in several shapes and designs. The borders of the garden have been covered with the plantation of flowery plants. There are also a few pathways covered in stone which lead towards the villa. The garden contains a few ornamental ponds and fountains too which bring about a great feel to the overall area. The spot is used by the tourists for recreation. A number of sculptures also bound the gardens.

Out of the 50 acres of area of the villa and the gardens, almost 40 acres of the land is covered in forest area. The vegetation in the area is quite different from the rest of the garden area.
