Water World is a water park located in Federal Heights in Colorado, approximately ten miles away from downtown Denver. Spread over an area of 27 hectares, it is one of the largest water parks of U.S.A. The park houses a number of attractions including water slides, tube rides, beach boogie boarding and wave pools.

Situated in Federal Heights, the park was opened to the public in 1979 as a part of Recreation district and Hyland Hills Park. The park started with just two slides. Spread over an area of 67 acres with 49 attractions, the park includes water-themed fun house, inflatable tube and raft rides, a lazy river and others. Water World has been featured in a number of films and television series as well, under different names: the 2006 film, 'The Surfer King', in the South Park Episode, 'Pee!' and others. Counted as one of the top 10 water parks in the United States by the Travel Channel in 2008, the park attracts tourists every Summer.

2. Wave Pools: Thunder Bay and Captain Jacks

The parks has two wave pools in all namely Captain Jacks and the other Thunder Bay. Captain Jacks is located at the upper end of the park and is smaller of two wave pools. The pool comprises 500,000 gallons of water to create multiple waves in 10-minutes cycles. A repeating engine is used to create these water cycles. The other one, i.e. The Thunder Bay is the larger one which creates crashing waves and strong water currents at certain points in the pool. The pools have a maximum depth of 8 feet and have numerous emergency points, shut-offs and E-Stops to cut off the power to the engine immediately in the concern for safety for the visitors.

3. Screamin' Mimi

Screamin'Mimi is a roller coaster ride with board-type vehicles, speeding up to 30 miles in an hour. The ride ends with taking you into a pool with a bounce in the water.

This slide sends the riders into a small enclosed body before entering a closed round bowl and ending up in a pool.

Another roller coaster ride is with the additional effects of lighting along with the sound of lighting.

Inaugurated in 2007, Turbo Racer is a slide where you can race in 8 lanes which end up with a timed finish by participants.

How to Get Tickets?

Water World, Colorado tickets can be booked online easily to secure a seat beforehand. The water park gets busy on some days and a prior booking is a safe option.

How To Get Around?

Carpooling is one of the best options to avail as it is a lot cheaper than renting a car and you can always use the company. The city also has bike rentals for a more adventurous vibe. Buses are also available right outside the airport.

What Should I Wear?

Colorado is all about dressing in layers. A dress without a denim jacket is so incomplete in Colorado. Always take your sunglasses with you. Wear casual and comfortable clothes with sneakers to the Water World. The boys can dress in casual t-shirts and layer it with light shirts to make a layer. Keep warm clothes as the weather in the city can be weird at times.

Best Time to Visit

Springs bring out the best of Colorado. Months from March to May are the best. With a drop in temperature, the water park might not be a good option anyway.

How To Get There?

You can rent a car right outside the airport and even take a direct bus to your hotel or from your hotel to the park. Pooling a car with others might be a cheaper option though.
