The Beth Lipman Collection

The Beth Lipman Collection

The Beth Lipman collection was introduced in the museum in October 2017. Lipman selected Hartley's art-piece, which was originally dedicated to the literary gem Gertrude Stein, the 'One Portrait of One Woman' artwork as the crux of his collection. The collection includes a large-scale sculptural installation which draws its inspiration from the seventeenth-century tradition of making still life paintings. The collection is a result of Lipman's unmatchable dedication and hard work. The entire collection revolves around a glass vanity which has the Hartley's self designed portrait of Stein in the place of the mirror. The other features of the vanity included the delicate and intricate detailing which are a tribute to Hartley's long and nomadic career. The large-scale glass compositions depict the individuals and society through lifeless objects. The collection will give you a glimpse of mortality, materiality, temporality and other critical issues which are relevant in the current scenario also.
