Due to its natural beauty, the West Lake quickly becomes a top tourist destination since the ancient Chinese period. Numerous pagodas and temples were constructed throughout the ages, especially during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, where famous temples and pagodas such as the Lei Feng pagoda, Jingci temple, Baochu pagoda, etc. During the reign of the Qing Dynasty, the Kangxi Emperor was so fascinated with the West Lake beauty; he visited it five times and chose ten of the most beautiful spots in the West Lake. The Qianlong Emperor who visited West Lake afterwards write poems and stelae for those ten spots, which thereafter was known as The Ten Scenic Spots of the West Lake.
Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, this causeway is often said to be the best among the Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake. During the spring, the peach blossoms and willow catkins blanketed the whole area, creating extremely gorgeous scenery. Walking or biking along the causeway is certainly the most popular thing to do as it will be such a charming and memorable experience.
In the past, there is a winery located in this crooked courtyard that is also teeming with lotus plants. A breeze that flows from the lake would sometimes bring together the aroma of the winery and scent of the lotus, creating such a wonderful fragrance to those who happened to be nearby. This aromatic experience was so memorable that the Emperor chose it to be one of the Ten Scenic Spots. The winery has been closed down ever since, but the cool evening breeze and the lotus blossoms are still there.
This special scenic spot is only available to those who visited the West Lake during the night. It is best seen during the full moon, as you can see the moon clearly above the towering pagoda, illuminating the surface of the lake with its gracious beauty.
Said to be the most romantic spot in the Ten Scenic Spots of the West Lake, this stone arched bridge is the bridge where the two lovers from the Legend of the White Snake meet and fell in love. The broken bridge received its name from the scenery during the winter, where snow would cover most part of the bridge's northern section, while the southern part is still visible. Thus, when seen from afar, the bridge would appear as split in half, hence the name Broken Bridge.
Best seen during the dusk when the sky is not too cloudy, the classic sunset view is more captivating with the Leifeng Pagoda inserted in the frame. This scenic spot can be viewed from the Chanqiao Park or the Xueshi Park. Bask in the mesmerizing orange hue of a sunset with your loved ones, as it will be an unforgettable moment in your life.

Most part of the lake does not require tickets and is free to visit. However, certain attractions, such as the night show, would require a ticket.
