Built in the 19th Century, the customs houses facility was constructed by the city government and completed in 1905. In few following years, the construction project was started again to built another warehouse building in the same area. Labelled as Building No. 2, the first building was constructed in 1911, while the second building was completed in 1913.Both building's constructions were carefully planned they even survived the Great Kanto Earthquake that occured in 1923 with minor damages. A project to repair the warehouse's damage was launched and compleeted in 1930 few years before the American troops invade Japan and requisitoned the building. The buildings were pretty much abandoned after the American troops left the land, though Yokohama city government acquired the buildings in 1992 and restore them to its former glory. Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was reborn into one of Yokohama's entertainment centre ever since then.
