Citadel of Qaitbay is a beautiful fortress located on the Mediterranean coast in Alexandria. The 15th Century Citadel was established by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay to defend the city from Ottoman attack. Lying on the same spot where once the Lighthouse of Pharos (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) stood, it is believed that some rocks of the fortress have been salvaged from the majestic tower. At present the citadel houses a small naval museum.
Montaza Palace comprises of a palace, a museum and extensive gardens. Overlooking a beach on the Mediterranean Sea coast, Montaza Palace served to be a summertime lodge of the royals. On the grounds of Salamlek palace a royal hunting lodge of the last ruler of Mohammad Ali Dynasty were added Al-Haramlik Palace and an expansive garden in 1932. While Salamlek palace is now an official residence of the President, Al-Haramlik Palace has been converted into a museum depicting the history of Mohammad Ali Dynasty. The royal gardens are also open for public access.
Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque is a large Egyptian mosque built on the tomb of 13th century saint Abul Abbas al-Mursi. Located near to the Citadel of Qaitbay, the mosque has been rebuilt many a times. The present structure that you see was designed by Mario Rossi and Eugenio Valzania. Inspired by Old Cairo buildings, the mosque has a fascinating architecture and its interiors are beautifully adorned with Islamic mosaic and woodwork.
Built in the year 1930 to preserve the sea creatures, Alexandria aquarium is a small museum with a beautiful collection of marine species from the Mediterranean and the Red sea along with freshwater species of the Nile and Amazon. The interactive museum also houses a library, some laboratories and a museum that contains the preserved sea animals from the Amazon, the Red sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
Roman Auditorium and Bathhouse is a prominent attraction of the city owing to its deep roots in the history. The large space now in ruins once had a Roman Amphitheatre that was used during three different periods, Roman, Byzantine and the early Islamic era. The open-air theatre is believed to host numerous musical shows and performances.
Alexandria National Museum was inaugurated on 31st December 2003 in an Italian Mansion. The beautiful museum has a wide array of exhibits that throw light on the history of Alexandria and Egypt. Its collections can be divided into three broad divisions of Coptic, Egyptian and Muslim World. there is also a wide collection of artefacts from Hellenistic period.

Fast Taxis are more reliable but expensive than the regular taxis running on the road.
What Should I Wear?

Best Time to Visit
Alexandria experiences Mediterranean climate with warm and humid summers and cold and wet winters. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are great for a holiday in the city as these have pleasant weather conditions and see lesser crowds. Summer though humid is the peak tourist season with crowds swarming in the city.

One can reach Alexandria easily by bus, train and flight. Borg el Arab Airport is the main airport of the city connecting it to some international cities. There are also buses running from Alexandria to neighbouring cities providing convenient and comfortable transportation. Numerous trains running from Cairo also pass through Alexandria. Due to a great road network, cars can also be taken to the city.
