Marble Mountains

Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains in the city are a cluster of five limestone and marble hills located in the south of the city. The 5 mountains have been named after 5 elements: Moc which means wood, Tho which is Earth, Kim which is metal, Hoa which is fire, and Thuy which is water. All the five have numerous tunnels and cave entrances along with many Buddhist sanctuaries. The area is quite renowned for its stone-cutting crafts and stone sculpture making. The mountains house a number of Hindu and Buddhist grottoes. Mount Thuy is accesible out of the five mountains by a stairway of 156 steps. The mount offers major panoramic views of the city as well as the other mountains.
