La Paz is surrounded with a mad carnival of jostling pedestrians, diesel-spewing minivans, honking, cavalcades of vendors and street marches. La Paz has something special which makes you love it or hate it, but you cannot ignore it. The town seems to reinvent itself at every turn. The jaw-dropping subway in the sky takes you from the great heights of El Alto to the depths of Zona Sur in the blink of an eye. Luxurious hotels are renovated at a manic pace along with new boutique hotels which springs up like the rows of altiplano corn.
