Leipzig Zoo

Leipzig Zoo

The first thing to do at Leipzig is to visit the zoo. Leipzig Zoo is one of the oldest in the world: in 1877 / 1878 it was created as a private zoo by Ernst Pinkert, the tenant of the site on Pfaffendorfer Strasse. Since 1920, the zoo has been owned by the city. At its founding, the site comprised only 2, now 23.2 hectares. It is located close to the city center on the edge of a large floodplain belt that runs through all of Leipzig. Thanks to the large number of representative animal houses, the visit to the zoo is a pleasant and informative stay in every season. You can purchase your tickets online.

How To Get There?

Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) is a small airport with a number of airlines flying into it. Best of all, it's an easy 15 minute train journey right into the center of Leipzig. Taxis are available outside Terminal B and cost around €40 with a 30-minute journey time. Berlin is just over 100 miles away, so it's not difficult to fly into the German capital either and take a high speed train (ICE) to Leipzig in around an hour.
