Sinhagad, the fort of a lion, situated just outside the busy metropolitan of Pune is a major attraction in Maharashtra. Aga Khan Palace
The Aga Khan Palace was built in 1892 by Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan III. This palace is an important landmark in history. Declared as an important historical monument by the Archaeological Survey of India, this palace also has importance in the freedom struggle. This palace acted as a prison for people of importance during freedom struggle like Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu. This place is also where the death of Kasturba Gandhi occurred after a long period of illness. This attraction is not just famous for its historical importance but also for its magnificence. It is an architectural delight and a must-see during a visit to Pune. The large landscapes around the palace and the vast number of trees make the palace all the more appealing.
Dagadusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple
Built by Dagadusheth Halwai, this Ganpati temple is one of the most visited cultural places in the city. This temple has grand celebrations during the Ganpati Celebrations in the city, and the sculpture of the god has intricate details. Ganpati celebrations are an integral part of the city's culture, and the entire city is decorated during the celebrations which last for 11 days. Various idols of Ganpati are put up for display, and countless tourists come to visit during the celebrations to see them. At the center of all these celebrations is the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati and it is considered as one of the most important of all.
Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park
Spread across an area of 130 acres, the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park houses a variety of animals. This zoo is divided into three parts including the animal orphanage, a snake park, and a zoo. It also has a large lake on campus. The snake park is famous across the country for its wide variety of snakes. People come from far to visit the snake park. The zoo has animals like peacocks, elephants, etc.
Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden
Situated on a canal, this garden is also known as the Pu La Deshpande garden after the famous writer. This garden has great scenic beauty, and tourists often come here to spend time with nature. The garden is also full of various trees and shrubs. The canal livens things up in the garden, and a variety of fishes can be seen swimming in the canal.
