Ibirapuera Park is an urban park in the vicinity of the city spread over an area of 158 hectares. It is recognized as one of the most visited urban parks in the residing continent of South America. Sao Paulo Zoo holds the title of being the largest zoo in the country of Brazil. It houses around 3200 animals, 216 species of bird, 15 species of amphibians, 102 species of mammals and 16 species of invertebrates in a natural habitat. It also has a farm with 572 hectares of land which is used for growing vegetables and other produce to feed the animals. The zoo also houses a nursery for the babies of the animals whose mothers reject them. The zoo has an incubation room for the eggs of reptiles and birds. It also has a library which can be visited by the public with around 4000 volumes. The zoo is also a home to some of the endangered species like the Lear's macaws, bush dog, the last snow leopard of Brazil, the lion tamarin, hyacinth macaw etc.
Botanical Garden of Sao Paulo also known as the Botanical Institute of the state, spreads over an area of 164.45 hectares. It is a house to around 380 species of trees which are further used for research work and also conserved. Alameda Fernando is an amazing attraction of this place. You can also observe the clear stream of Pirarungaua. The garden has a room depicting its history. Other attractions of the garden are Ovens housing tropical plants, a lake of the Nymphs, Garden of the Senses, Spring trail etc.
